Oh lady fine, who has entered the heaven,
Due to penance done in last birth,
Won’t you reply,please
Won’t you open the door,please
If we pray the God Narayana,
Having with him the scented garland,
Made of holy basil,
He would give us gifts, many,
He is the same who is holy in times ancient,
Sent Kumbhakarna to his death,
After beating him in the field of war.
Did that ogre give you his sleep,
Before he went off from here,
Oh lass who is very lazy,
Oh lass, who is like pretty jewels,
Wake up from your sleep, well,
And open the door.

Oh daughter of the cattle baron,
Who milks herds of cows,
And wages war on enemies
And makes his enemies loose their strength,
Oh Golden tendril, Oh lass who has the mount of venus,
Like the hood of the snake, Wake up and come,
When your flock of friends,
Have come to your courtyard, And sing of Krishna,
Who has the colour of the cloud, Oh rich, rich lady,
How can you neither move nor talk, And lie in deep trance,

Verse 12

Hey, sister of the rich one, who owned,
The mooing she buffalo with a calf,
Which took pity on the calf,
And gave out plenty,
Of milk to it through its udder,
And made his courtyard slushy with milk,
We are assembled in thine yard,
In the dripping fog, And sing about Him,
Who killed in anger the king of Southern Lanka,
And who is very dear one,
But open your mouth, you don’t..
At least wake up now,
Why this very deep slumber,
For people of all houses around,
Have already become alert

Let us all sing and get gifts,
From Him who has killed the horse like ogre,

From Him who killed the wrestlers, Sent to kill him,
From the Narayana, who is first among the Gods,
And prostrate before him.. Please hear what we tell.

And decide for yourself,

In the soft cotton bed,
In the pearl filled Villa,
Well lit from all sides,
And full of the smoke of incense,
Please open the ornamental door.
Oh aunt, why don’t you wake her up,
Is your daughter dumb or deaf, Or down right lazy,
Or she is in trance of deep pleasurable sleep,
Let us all call him the great enchanter,
Madhavan and he who lives in Vaikunta,
By several of His names,
And get benefited,

Meaning ----

Did you not hear alternate twittering birds making loud noises,
Did you not hear the loud sound of white conch,
From the temple of the king of Garuda,
Oh, girls please wake up,
Let us hear the holy sounds of “Hari , Hari”.
From the savants and sages,
Calling him who drank the poisonous milk from the ghost,
Him who kicked and killed the ogre of the cart,
And him who sleeps on the great serpent Adi Sesha
So that it goes through our mind,
And make our mind cool

The 7th stanza ------------

Did you not hear, Oh slow witted girl,
The twittering sound of black birds of the morn,
Which sounds like a talk between them,
Did you not hear the tingling sound,
When the big and small coin like pendants,
Rub against each other,
Did you not hear the sound of vigorous pull,
Of the curd churner being pulled,
By the flower bedecked cow herdesses,
Did you not hear the sound of twirling curd,
When churned using the mixer,
Oh, leader among girls, How can you sleep,
When they sing the names sweetly.
Of Narayana and Kesava,
Oh, She who is sparkling,
Be pleased to open the door,

Turtle and the Rabbit - Teamwork Pays off

On a beautiful Spring Day,
All the animals of the woods had a fun day.

Turtle constructs a bridge on a stream
Rabbit tries to destruct turtle's dream
And Oh no! it falls into the stream!!

Kind turtle rescues rabbit out of the stream,
Carries rabbit on his shell to the shore.
Friendly birds bring a blanket for the shivering rabbit.

Turtle back on his work of building log bridge,
Rabbit helps his new turtle friend
And keeps the final rock in place.

Rabbit and Turtle finish the bridge with teamwork
Invite all the animal friends to show their teamwork.

All the friends and  family of beavers,
And birds and grasshoppers,
All cross the stream by using the bridge,
And this is how teamwork paid off.

The Cunning Jackal and the Cow friends

In the grasslands of Munnar, there were 4 cows Sparkle, Pear, Spotty and Browny, who grazed together . Each one of them were different in their own way . Sparkle had sparkling eyes, Pear
had  a pear shaped  black spot on her forehead, Spotty was white with black spots on her body,
and Browny was brown in colour.

Though everybody was different in their own way, they never made fun of each other or fought with each other. There was a cunning jackal named Jacky, who lived in the hills of Kurinji , saw these cows grazing and playing everyday. It wanted have these cows for a delicious meal. So, on a sunny day, it tried attacking on Sparkle. But Pear, Spotty and Browny ran to the rescue of Sparkle and chased Jacky out of the grassland. Sparkle was safe because all of them were friends and they helped each other when the need arouse.

Now, Jacky thought of a plan to attack the cows. Meanwhile , the cows planned for a party to celebrate their friendship. So, they shared the arrangement work among themselves. Sparkle went in search of  flowers to decorate their cowshed . Pear went in search of  straw . Spotty went to bring some fresh grass to eat and Browny went in search of hay.

Jacky saw the cows going in each direction, so, it first followed Sparkle and said, do you know that Pear is going to trim her tail, without telling others ? How mean of her , she wants to look very pretty. Now, Sparkle became angry on Pear.

Next, Jacky went to Pear and told that Sparkle is bathing in the river without telling anyone , so that she wants to look "sparkly". Pear got angry  on Sparkle.

Now, Jacky went to Browny and told that Spotty is going to eat the best and fresh grass she finds first and only then she will bring the leftover grass for everyone else. So, Browny was angry with Spotty.

Now finally, Jacky went to Spotty and told that Browny is playing in the hills of hay without telling anyone. Now, Spotty became angry with Browny.

Sparkle, Pear, Spotty and Browny ran to the grassland, where the party was going to be held. Once they saw each other they started fighting and went angrily in each direction. Jacky was successful  in separating the cows. Now,  Jacky had one of the cows for  a delicious meal every day.

Moral of the story -
When the cows were friends, nobody could attack them. Once they were separated, the cunning jackal ate them all. So,the moral of the story is "Unity is Strength ".

HAPPY FATHERS' DAY ! தந்தையர் தினச் சிறப்பு தொகுப்பு !

Happy Fathers' Day to all DADs

This is a dedication to my DAD !

Parenting Tips

Hello Parents!

Here are some more parenting tips for you...
You should encourage kids to clean up and tidy their room. Oh yes, I can listen to all your mind voices !!! Yes, I too agree that no kid will clean up the mess they created.

But , you can have a gift jar / bowl in which you can put some pencils, funny looking erasers, giant pens/ pencils, mechanical led pencils, magic erasers, etc.
You have to tell the kids that , if they keep their room clean for a week, at the end of the week, they get to choose one gift from the jar.

Follow this for a few weeks, then you will see that they will start building the habbit of cleaning their room.

Or if you don't like this , you can also give them some money for their piggy bank. And once they save some , take them to the store and allow them to buy a small toy or something they like. They will be very happy .

Try these for disciplining them and then you 'll see the difference!

Please write your valuable comments !

The Brinjal Boy

Once there lived Mr.Kiku who sold vegetables in a market.
In his brinjal basket, there was a brinjal boy, which he himself did't know.
One sunny morning, a man named Mr.Jumbo came, came to the market and
bought brinjals from Mr.Kiku. The brinjal boy also jumped into Mr.Jumbo's basket.

When Mr.Jumbo went home and emptied the basket, the brinjal boy rolled out and screamed. Mr. and Mrs.Jumbo were surprised to see a brinjal screaming ,walking and rolling....................
The brinjal boy cried, "please......... let me stay here.......
If you send me back to the vendor , somebody else will buy me and cook me". So, they decided to keep the brinjal boy in their house. Now, the brinjal boy rolled again and was happy.

Mrs.Jumbo decided to give the brinjal boy a leaf dress. He trimmed the dress in a stylish manner that he looked a little different.

The next morning , Mr.Jumbo and his wife, took the brinjal boy in a bullock cart to the nearby town. On the way, when the cart bumped over a stone, the brinjal boy fell down from the pocket, but nobody noticed it.
Then suddenly, the cart's wheel got loose and it tumbled over. When they fell on the road, they saw the brinjal boy screaming and rolling down.

Then Mr.Jumbo ran and caught the brinjal boy and now, he put him safely in his pocket.
They all reached the town , finished the work and returned home .

After that, Mr.Jumbo was very careful with the brinjal boy. He left him along with his wife at home to be safe. They all lived happily ever after.
